Do you have an engineering mindset with a passion for applying technology to increase capabilities?  Barbaricum is seeking a Data Scientist who can combine their technical skills and ability to distill complex topics into digestible and action-oriented solutions. This corporate-level technology professional will regularly interact with government, industry, and academic stakeholders to define and lead the art of the possible while spearheading the evolution of Barbaricum’s new Data Innovation Lab (DIL). Barbaricum’s DIL will serve as a convergence of innovation, mission, and technology. As our ambassador to Barbaricum’s core and emerging technology partners, your work will drive innovation across Barbaricum through data, tools, training, and emerging TTPs (tactics, techniques and procedures).

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements operating model based on the vision for Barbaricum's DIL as a data science center of excellence
  • Engages with key stakeholders among Barbaricum staff, technology partners, and government as the lead for Barbaricum’s DIL
  • Builds partnerships across government, industry, and academia needed to develop diverse data science capabilities including data sets, data science tools, TTPs, and training
  • Works with Barbaricum’s Program Managers to identify gaps on Barbaricum’s contracts and takes lead on how technology can be applied to increase capability
  • Organizes and facilitates technical deep dives, hack-a-thons, and other events to promote data/technology innovation and solutions to challenges
  • Oversees the data platform/environment, technology/tool stack, TTPs, and Training--provides inputs to technical infrastructure, data analysis, and data management solutions
  • Maintains and improves comprehensive evaluation/assessment strategy and framework aligning Barbaricum DIL objectives and strategic direction
  • In conjunction with Barbaricum technical leadership, creates and maintains innovation backlog and facilitates backlog prioritization meetings with Barbaricum leadership
  • Condenses assessment findings (metrics for performance and effectiveness) regarding technology performance and objectives into concise reporting for diverse audiences
  • Develops and evaluates upskilling programs of instruction for Barbaricum employees

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering Management or related field
  • 8+ years of related management and technology experience including experience working for or with technology companies and DoD
  • Specific market awareness for commercial and government data science needs and resources
  • Experience applying data science for Special Operations or other operational DoD customer
  • Experience managing small teams and working with senior leadership
  • Working knowledge of multiple back-end (e.g., Python, Golang, Rust) and front-end (e.g., Javascript, React, Node.js) languages and platforms and databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB)
  • Experience in sales engineering or product management (preferred)
  • DoD security clearance (preferred)
  • Traditional and non-traditional acquisition experience (preferred)
