Barbaricum is seeking a Technical Librarian to support Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT). This individual will work as part of a larger contracting group to provide support for NUWCDIVNPT Public Affairs Divisions’ need for technical reports and study services.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor online inboxes and live chat channels for requests for services and address walk-in and telephone customer requests for services
  • Provide traditional and special library information services in support of the NUWCDIVNPT and Navy organizations participating in the NUWCDIVNPT digital library portal annual subscription
  • Research and provide reference services to locate and obtain published and unpublished resource's via Government, commercial, and free research tools
  • Verify holdings and validate and annotate against the employees Standard Form 52
  • Deliver usage statistics and recommendations to the government for improving the efficiency, cost and quality of subscription access and tracking associated with databases and journals
  • Research new potential annual subscription tracking services as they become available to determine whether they would be beneficial and submit to the Government
  • Process interlibrary loan and on-demand library services requests, research locations to obtain said material, fill internal and external requests, track requests and checked-out materials, and process returned materials
  • Ship materials back to originators in accordance with the timeframe specified in the individual borrowing library’s policy 

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance required
  • Bachelor Degree required
  • Experience managing teams in an engineering and scientific library setting
  • Knowledge of specialized information sources, structure, content, and access protocols of electronic databases 
  • Ability to coordinate outreach events to educate users about new and current resources
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying standards for data collections, management, curation, and accessibility 
  • Previous experience overseeing library staff and coordinating tasking
  •  Knowledge of digital rights laws, regulations, copyright, and licensing

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Previous experience with handling classified collections including North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE), and Critical Nuclear Weapon Design Information (CNWDI)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office, SharePoint, and internet software tools
  • Demonstrated experience with Drupal and Islandora
