Barbaricum is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Technical Proposal Writer with experience developing technical proposal content, researching technical areas, and interviewing subject matter experts to write compliant and compelling proposal sections, including technical, management, past performance and other sections as needed. The successful candidate will work with proposal teams to create responses to federal procurements, including RFPs, RFIs, and Sources Sought Notices.
 
This position will report directly to the Chief Growth Officer. The successful candidate will work on various proposal-related documents to edit materials, improve their grammar and quality, and ensure they are editorially correct while also maintaining their accuracy and meaning. The candidate will gather and review content developed by SMEs for compliance to RFP requirements, provide consistency to proposal content across all volumes to include past performance, resumes, management, and technical. They will lead revisions, such as changing words and rearranging sentences and paragraphs to improve clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Write draft content and/or edit proposal content drafted by other contributors, including technical sections, management and staffing sections, resumes, past performance, and other proposal sections.
  • Research written materials and interview SMEs to understand and develop relevant, often technical, information for use in proposal writing.
  • Edit completed sections for accuracy, grammar, and formatting.
  • Read proposal text and improve it by rewriting to one voice in proposal.
  • Turn passive into active voice and write persuasive content.
  • Ensure all text conforms to company style guide and proposal-specific message and voice.
  • Ensure all text is grammatically correct and responsive to proposal requirements.
  • Help coordinate editorial schedules with proposal management staff while communicating needs and deadlines.
  • Review and understand customer hot buttons, features, and benefits of proposed solution to skillfully incorporate win themes into proposal sections.
  • Contribute to multiple proposals simultaneously, as needed.
  • Support the ongoing development and maintenance of reusable proposal content for the Proposal Development Resource Library.
  • Work with the CGO and Proposal Manager to establish a well-organized proposal process as well as a structured repository for data to optimize the proposal process to reduce cycles and increase PWIN.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 8 years of related experience in proposal writing; 3-5 years of experience writing for Federal government contracts
  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field; may substitute degree with 6 to 8 years of Federal government procurement experience
  • Strong written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask multiple proposals simultaneously
  • Extensive experience/advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and SharePoint
  • Ability to develop relationships, gain internal support and establish a solid working relationship with a variety of stakeholders, including technical staff, program managers, leadership, and peers within Barbaricum and with external partners to ensure continuous improvement
  • Proven work ethic and ability to operate independently with limited supervision and feedback to drive the desired results
  • Self-starter and ability to manage time independently without direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to research, refine and develop proposal content
  • The ability to operate at the senior level to inform, discuss, and come to agreement on proposal content
  • Flexibility and willingness to adjust to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • At times, have the ability to work non-traditional hours/weekends to meet proposal deadlines
